Dr. Shannon Flegle, Veterinarian/Owner
Dr. Shannon Flegle earned her DVM from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She practiced in Minnesota until December 2010 when she joined Murphy Animal Hospital. Dr. Flegle grew up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota and has always had an interest in veterinary medicine. She got her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Dr. Flegle realizes that there is a complex bond that exists between people and their pets. Understanding this bond helps people and their pets form a healthy relationship that meets not just the pets physical needs, but also meets the emotional needs of people and their pets. Dr. Flegle has particular interest in internal medicine, geriatric medicine and surgery. She will work hard to provide her clients with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Flegle enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and their 3 dogs and 3 cats. She also enjoys playing volleyball, walking and flower gardening.
Dr. Julie Mayabb, Veterinarian
A general practitioner at Murphy Animal Hospital since January 2015, Dr. Mayabb wanted to be a veterinarian ever since she was seven years old. She most enjoys helping animals feel better and stay healthy.
A native of St. Louis, Dr. Mayabb attended the University of Missouri - St. Louis and received her bachelor's degree in biology in 1994. She continued her veterinary education at the University of Missouri - Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1999.
Medicine and dermatology are among her many professional interests. Dr. Mayabb is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Assosciation, the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medican Association.
Dr. Mayabb's animal companions include a cat named Tessa, a Greyhound named Ferris, and two goldfish: Leonard and Sheldon. Ferris has his Canine Good Citizen Certification and is a certified therapy dog. Dr. Mayabb and Ferris often visit mursing homes for pet therapy programs.
Outside the hospital, she enjoys gardening, reading, watching St. Louis Blues hockey games, and spending time with her husband, Brent.
Dr. Timothy Holt, Relief Surgeon
Dr. Holt was born and raised in Southern Illinois. He studied chemistry as an undergraduate and continued on to complete his DVM at the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1982. In 1993, Dr. Holt graduated from the second class of the AAHA Veterinary Management Institute at the Krannert School of Business, Purdue University.
He was the first veterinarian in the St. Louis area to purchase and use the Luxar (now Lumenis) Laser system in June of 1998. Since then, he has performed over seven thousand surgical procedures using the Lumenis Laser technology. Dr. Holt served as a past president of the St. Louis Metro East Veterinary Medical Assosciation and the Southern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association. In 2002, Dr. Holt underwent advanced surgical training in a partial surgical residency at the University of Georgia Colloe of Veterinary Medicine.
In 2005, Dr. Holt started Relief Surgical Services, a Midwest based traveling referral surgical practice that provides select veterinary hospitals with in-house advanced surgical procedures and treatments. Dr. Holt is certified in Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, Sliding Humeral Osteotomy, Helica Total Hip Prosthesis, and the Modified Maquet Procedure for Tibial Tuberosity Advancement.
Dr. Holt currently resides in Wentzville, Missouri with his wife, Stefanie, and his two children, Ashlyn and Austin.
Samantha Dalton, Certified Veterinary Technician
Education: Jefferson College - Veterinary Technology Program; graduated in 2013
Sam has worked for three years in small animal veterinary practices. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and has been at Murphy for over one year.
Sam has two cats, a grey tabby named Kitty and a tortoise shell colored cat named Copper. She also has a Pit Bull and Labrador Retreiver mix named Lexi. Sam owns a Thoroughbred horse named Jag, too.
In her spare time, Sam enjoys riding her horse and spending time with her dog and cats. She loves being outdoors, especially on the beach or on a trail ride in the woods. Sam also is an avid Blues Hockey fan, and likes to relax by reading books.
Holly Kennedy, Certified Veterinary Technician
Education: Associate of Applied Science
Holly has worked since 2009 in small animal veterinary practices. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
She has a Labrador Retreiver mix named Hershey, a Yorkshire Terrier mix named Freddie, a puppy named Olivine, and a Domestic Short-haired cat named Rique Ricardo.
Holly's hobbies include spending time with her daughter Cinthia, and with her pets. She also likes to play tennis and collect old coins.
Kristina Rumble, Certified Veterinary Technician
Stacie Gronemeyer, Veterinary Technician
Education: Jefferson College: Associate of Applied Science
Stacie has worked in small and large animal practice since 2013. Stacie started at Murphy in April of 2015. She has two dogs, a Jack Russel Terrier mix named Belle, and an Australian Shepherd mix named Cap'n Diesel. She also has two cats named Porkchop and Meeko. Stacie has two Quarter Horse crosses named Boo and Rhett. Stacie's hobbies include riding her horses, puzzles, back packing, and baking. She also loves curling up with a good book with her dogs by her side.
Julie Brown, Veterinary Technician
Kelly Hamilton, Veterinary Assistant
Education: High School
Kelly began her experience as a veterinary assistant in 2007, and began working at Murphy in 2015.
She has a shaded golden tabby Persian cat named Benjamin Cooper.
Kelly enjoys reading, being outdoors and riding ATV's. She also likes fishing, gardening, and she even has a store on E-Bay.
Caity Dorris, Veterinary Technician/Receptionist
Education: B.A. in zoology with minor in Anthropology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale
Caity started her career with animals in 2008 working as a zookeeper at the St. Louis Zoo. She has worked with a wide variety of animals, but her favorite were the penguins, where she worked with exclusively for three years.
Caity also has experience working as a receptionist in the human medical field.
She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and watching Blues hockey. She has two handsome male tuxedo cats, Reno and Soapie Valentine who make her smile.
Donna Birch, Veterinary Assistant
Education: Thirty Five Years of Experience
Donna began working at Murphy Animal Hospital, with only her love of animals to back her up. She now assists in everyday surgeries, as well as taking care of the pets in the clinic. Donna also works in the kennel and takes care of pets that board with us. Her cosmetology training taught her to be a very sanitary person, so one of her main goals is to keep the clinic as clean as possible.
Donna has a sixteen year old black and white cat, and she also has a black Chihuahua.
In her pastime, Donna enjoys sewing, cooking, and gardening. She is a hairdresser of thirty five years, and she loves making the world beautiful.
Holly Sweeney, Receptionist
Education: Webster University: Bachelor of Science - Biology
Holly began working for Murphy Animal Hospital in the kennels in 2013 before becoming one of the receptionists.
Prior to working at Murphy, Holly worked as a stablehand at William Woods University while she attended school.
Holly has an Australian Shepherd named Finnegan, a golden retreiver named Maddie, and a cat named Lyra.
She enjoys reading, writing, and photography in her spare time. She also loves hiking and watching Blues hockey. She shares her home with two dogs, an Australian Shepherd named Finnegan and a Golden Retriever named Maddie. She also has a gray and white cat named Lyra.
Rachel Bynum, Receptionist
Education: University of Missouri - St. Louis, currently enrolled
Rachel has worked with dogs and cats since 2009, focusing in kennel care and management before becoming a front desk receptionist at Murphy in 2014.
Rachel has four pets of her own, two cats, a dog, and a horse. Both of her cats, Blackie and Patches, were rescues. She adopted Jaz, her Chihuahua, in 2013. Rachel has owned her horse, Bandit, since 2010.
When she isn't studying or at work, Rachel's biggest passion is horses. She spends time riding her horse as much as possible. She also enjoys anything outdoors, especially being at the lake.
Courtney Flood, Boarding/Daycare Manager
Education: University of Missouri - St. Louis, currently enrolled
Before joining Murphy in December of 2014, Courtney worked as a kennel employee starting in 2007, and managed a kennel for over a year starting in 2013. She loves being able to work with dogs.
Courtney has a German Shepherd named Rebel. She grew up having shepherds, but Rebel is the first one she has owned herself. He is very outgoing and has a BIG personality!
She spends a lot of time with friends and with Rebel, but she also enjoys reading, watching movies, painting, and listening to music.
Amy Gonzales, Kennel/Daycare Assistant
Richie Camden, Certified Dog Trainer \ Daycare Manager
Education: Northern Michigan University, graduated in 2008
Richie has been training dogs since 2011 through group classes and private lessons. He has been working in the pet industry since 2010.
Richie shares his home with 10 siberian huskies, seven of which were adopted from rescue groups around the midwest.
Named after some of his favorite hockey players, Koivu, Fleury, Spezza, Mandy, Chara, Roenick, Cookie, Mikko, and Backes round out his roster.
Richie's hobbies include playing hockey and soccer, watching the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals play, training sled dogs, and reading.
Maria Higgins, Groomer
Education: Petsmart Grooming Academy
Maria's experience in grooming started in 2007 working through Petsmart. Since then she's mastered all breed cuts and have dealt with many temperments. During her years of grooming, she has managed and developed many groomers on her own, sharing her passion for pets.
She has one sassy girl named Sissy. She's a sweet girl who's always looking out for our family.
Grooming is Maria's number one hobby. But when she's not at work, she spends most of her days spending time with her young son doing arts and crafts.
Lucy, Daily Operations Supervisor/Greeter
Education: School of Hard Knocks
Lucy came to us in August of 2014, and hobbled her way right into our hearts. She enjoys long walks through the grass, playing outside with her friends in daycare, and napping through the afternoon while everyone works in the hospital.
Spook, Clinic Cat/Greeter
Education: Nine Lives School of Cookie Tasting
Spook came to us in February 2014, and has added a vibrant personality to the front desk of the clinic. He enjoys greeting clients and their pets as they come in. In his free time, Spook enjoys receiving pets from hospital staff, scheming ways to steal cookies from the front desk, and sun bathing on the front counter.
